Name:
Location: Brunswick, Maine, United States

A fat kid who grew up on the coast of Maine in a previous century -- actually, in another galaxy far, far away -- I thought I was too stupid to go to college. My comfort zone, my self-esteem, and my success zone --were about the size of a quark, and just about as stable. The times they have "achanged." At 30 I came across Helen Keller's statement, "Life is either a daring adventure or nothing." That changed everything! Since then my adventure has found me on the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro, finishing the Hawaii Ironman Triathlon, and solo through-hiking the 2167-mile Appalachian Trail at the age of 59. Then followed the biggest challenge of my life as I caught Lyme disease on the Trail and spent the next 5 plus years recovering. And now, my adventure is taking me to some of the grandest adventures yet. Watch this space for on-going developments!

JOYOUS GREETINGS OF THE SEASON!
I was astonished when I looked at the date of my last posting! This month has flown. All of my writing time and energy has gone into the final preparations of the website that Nerissa Oden and I are doing -- www.winthefitnessgame.com. I am delighted to announce that we went live this morning! Please visit and learn how you can be as fit and healthy as you want. No more fussing about what you weigh!
My goal is to evolutionize the whole weight loss scene. We've been dieting for decades and during that time we've gotten fatter and fatter. As it is time for us to try a new strategy in Iraq, it is time for us to adopt a new strategy for fitness. What we've been doing just doesn't work! I'm sure you know the definition of insanity as "doing the same old thing and expecting different results." Time to stop trying to lose weight and starting gaining fitness!
If you've been to my website www.byebyestruggle.com you know that I've achieved a level of fitness and athletic achievement rare for any woman, let alone one of my age. You also know that from 2000- 2005 I lost so much of my fitness due to Lyme disease. That leads to my second incredibly joyous experience of the week!
I resumed running this week, easier than at any time since before I became ill. I credit the winthefitnessgame workins that I've been doing, the walking I started last summer, and the yoga classes I've attended for about 7 weeks. Yesterday I did my 2 mile walk/run late morning and then attended power yoga in late afternoon. During yoga, I suddenly realized that my rehabilitation from Lyme and trigeminal neuralgia is complete! I am no longer rehabilitating. I'm done! I'm back! I am fully fit once more. And eargerly anticipating increasing my athletic capacity until I'm competing in races again. Wow! What a week.
My wish for you all for this Holiday Season is that it be filled with all the richness and joy you desire.
Peace, blessings, and great joy to all. Rita
